The Easiest Weekly Home Cleaning Schedule! (Weekly Reset & Laundry Method as a Mom of 3)

I think being a mom is one of, if not the most, challenging jobs in the world. The amount of things we need to get done a week is astronomical! After becoming a mom of three boys, I knew I had to implement a method to “get it all done” and not lose my mind. I created a weekly home cleaning schedule, a daily routine, a weekly reset, and a laundry method to help manage all the things. And try not to let too many things slip through the cracks. Plus, it only takes less than 30 minutes a day!

Having methods, systems, and schedules that work for you and your home are the foundation of setting yourself up for success. For me, for a long time, I would just vacuum or mop or dust when I felt like it or thought about it. Sometimes it would be a month before I would clean the bathroom again. I would let the laundry pile up so much; we wouldn’t have any underwear left. Get my free weekly laundry schedule printable below!

I feel like I would wake up one morning every few weeks and get the “ick” with my house. The cleaning bug would bite me and I would spend hours cleaning everything. Then I would be exhausted and not want to do it again for weeks. The cycle would start all over again. It wasn’t sustainable for us and I felt like my house was only clean for a few hours a month.

Knowing what I will clean, on which day, and that everything will get cleaned every week, has been so good for my mental health. Same with my laundry method (which I still fall behind on sometimes) but it helps prevent me from the 5 hour laundry sessions I would do to myself before. Having all this planned and my daily routine in place makes me able to be more present and less overstimulated.

Our Weekly Home Cleaning Schedule

Sunday: This is my weekly reset day. We go to church most Sundays and then come home to relax and, if I’m lucky, nap! Then we all do a quick 20 minute reset before dinner. The kids pick up all the toys throughout the house and put them away. I catch up on laundry, vaccuum any weird areas that are extra dirty, tidy any random objects out etc.

After dinner we do our night time schedule and reset you can read about here. I end the night making our grocery list and ordering our groceries for the week. This sets us up for success, helps take some mental load off, and supports my weightloss journey.

Monday: Mondays we start with school and we go pick up our groceries. Monday is kitchen day. I wipe out the fridge if needed, put groceries away, wipe down appliances, and mop the hard floors on our main level. My kids dust the trim and windowsills after I mop. My kids usually go to their Nina’s (my mother in law) on Monday afternoon to play with cousins for a few hours. I try to get all my “chores” done before they leave so I have the whole afternoon to do whatever I want. It’s glorious!

Tuesday: This is Bathroom day and my oldest has piano lessons. If you do your bathrooms weekly, they literally take 10 min tops to clean! I keep cleaning supplies in every bathroom and do touch ups when needed. We have three boys 3, 5, and 7 so they need a refresh every once and awhile, haha! Our trash day is Wednesdays so the boys bring all the small trashes throughout the house and empty them in the dumpster.

Wednesday: This is living room day. I vacuum and dust our living room. The boys, with the exception of the three year old, fold their laundry and put it away.

Thursday: Thursday is bedroom day and probably my longest cleaning day. I change all of our sheets and vacuum upstairs and the stairs themselves. The boys strip their beds and put their bedding in the laundry room for me.

Friday: This is backyard and car day. The boys tidy the back yard from all the toys, rocks, sticks, mud, and dog poop. We clean out the car and throw away the trash. I have a car trunk organizer I keep snacks, first aid, water, extra clothes, and in the summer swimsuits. I make sure this is stocked and clothes are current sizes etc.  Every few weeks I will take the car to vacuum and wipe out.  I also clean the school room up and make sure the books and pencils are all put away.

Saturday: Alot of the time we are gone or busy Saturdays. If I have extra time I try to just tidy the house up and catch up on laundry if I fell behind throughout the week!

This is our Laundry Schedule

Monday: Towels. I don’t separate colors or types. I just throw them all in and its worked fine for the last decade! My boys bring down their laundry baskets for me to do tomorrow.

Tuesday: Kids clothes. I don’t seperate these either. We wear alot of hand me downs and they are true boys so I don’t worry too much about perfection. If they have some garly stains I use THIS stain remover. It’s non-toxic and you literally watch berry stains disappear in seconds. It’s magic and every mom needs it in their cabinet!

Wednesday: Sheets and Comforters. My kids don’t sleep with a top sheet so I wash their comforters weekly. We do so I only wash our comforter every 6-8 weeks! Doing our bedding on Wednesday has everything clean for me to clean the bedrooms on Thursday!

Thursday: Mom and Dad’s Clothes. I seperate our clothes into work clothes (my husband does construction), lights, and darks. I do out lights and darks on this day and work clothes on different day.

Friday: Work Clothes. I wash all of my husbands work clothes seperately from anything else since they often have paint, mud, insulation, etc. I don’t seperate his work clothes by color however.

Weekends: These are just to catch up and put stuff away. I try to keep weekends as clear as possible. Mom’s deserve time off too!
